KAJANG: A 5-year-old boy, who fell into a coma five years ago when he was thrown off a swing at a daycare centre in Semenyih, has died.

Akmal Haris Shamsul Anuar was only 3 months old when the incident happened on Sept 7, 2005.

He died at his home in Taman Desa Mewah, Semenyih, at 5am yesterday.

According to Akmal's mother, 39-year-old Rozarina Bukhari, she woke up at 4am for sahur but did not check on the child, assuming that he was still sound asleep.

However, she was told by her husband, who woke up to check on him an hour later, that their son had died.

"I was shocked over the news. So, I rushed to check on his pulse but to my despair, he had left me," she said yesterday.

Akmal's body was taken to the Semenyih mosque before being buried at Sungai Lalang Muslim cemetery.

The child was reported to have had a hard life, undergoing at least 11 operations, including one to remove his leg due to gangrene.

He also had eye operations because of bacterial infections on his corneas after the accident.
